Facial Pre and Post Care Instructions

Understanding the importance of pre and post care instructions is paramount for achieving optimal results. Pre-instructions set the foundation for success, while post care ensures the longevity and enhancement of your efforts.

  • Laser Genesis

    • Do not wear makeup on the day of treatment

    • Excess hair may need to be shaved. Men should be cleanly shaved

    • No sun-tanning or self-tanners 4 weeks prior to treatment. Includes spray tans, tanning lotions, tanning beds, sun exposure, etc.

    • Avoid treatments that may irritate the skin for 1-2 weeks prior to treatment (waxing, depilatories, etc.)

    • Notify clinic with any changes to your health history or medications since your last appointment

    • History of herpes or cold sores may require an anti-viral prescription prior to treatment

    • Notify medical staff at Fillir if you have been prescribed/taking oral antibiotics or steroids 2 weeks prior to treatment. Taking these medications can increase your skin's sensitivity and risk for burns after a laser treatment.

    Chemical Peels

    *We recommend a consultation prior to this treatment*

     **Patient needs to pre-treat skin 4-6 weeks prior to receiving the 3-step peel, using a form  of retinol, based on your skincare specialists instructions.**

    • Discontinue the use of alpha hydroxy acids, benzoyl peroxide, retinols and other potentially 

    irritating products 3-4 days prior to peel.

    • Avoid laser hair removal, electrolysis, waxing and the use of depilatory creams for 5-7 days prior 

    to peel. 

    • Avoid having the peel until skin has completely healed from any procedures, such as IPL, laser, or microdermabrasion.

    • Let the provider know if you have a history of cold sores. An antiviral may be prescribed

    • You may not have an active rash in the area being treated

    • Avoidance of Accutane for the past 6 months is required.

    Pigmented Lesion Treatment

    • Do not wear makeup on the day of treatment

    • No sun-tanning or self-tanners 4 weeks prior to treatment (Includes spray tans, tanning lotions, tanning beds, sun exposure, etc.)

    • Some medications or supplements may increase the risk bruising. Consult with your physician.

    • Avoid treatments that may irritate the skin for 1-2 weeks prior to treatment (waxing, depilatories, etc.)

    • Notify clinic with any changes to your health history or medications since your last appointment

    • History of herpes or cold sores may require an anti-viral prescription prior to treatment

  • Laser Genesis

    • Avoid sun exposure and use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen to prevent sun damage

    • Bruising, redness, bumps and swelling may occur and resolve with time

    • Avoid heat – hot tubs, saunas, etc. for 1-2 days

    • Avoid skin irritants a few days post-treatment (Products containing tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, astringents, etc.)

    • Multiple treatments are recommended for results.

    • Notify clinic of any concerns (blistering, excessive redness/swelling, etc.)

    • Consult with clinic about when to resume skin care regime.

    Chemical Peels

    • Redness or sensitivity might be present (and last up to a few days).

    • Peeling may start 1-3 days after treatment.

    • Do not pick or scratch at treated skin.

    • Avoid strenuous exercise or sweating for 24-48 hours.

    • Avoid sun tanning and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight for 2-4 weeks.

    • If exposed to the sun, always use broad spectrum SPF 30+ and reapply every 2 hours.

    • Results are most noticeable after the second treatment.

    • Recommend follow up and repeat treatments in 4-6 weeks.

    • Best results are obtained in a series of 4-6 treatments.

     

    Contraindications
    ●Active herpes simplex or warts in the area to be treated

    ●Skincare routine must include retinols to be considered a candidate for this treatment
    ●Wounded or sunburned in the area to be treated

    ●History of radiation therapy in area to be treated
    ●Allergies to salicylates
    ●Currently pregnant or lactating

    Pigmented Lesion Treatment

    • Avoid sun exposure and use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen to prevent further sun damage

    • Bruising, redness and swelling are common and resolve with time

    • Treated pigment will turn darker (brown to black) within 24-48 hours

    • Do not pick at treated areas

    • Treated pigment will exfoliate off the face in approximately 1 week

    • Treated pigment will exfoliate off the body in approximately 2-3 weeks

    • Avoid heat – hot tubs, saunas, etc. for 1-2 days

    • Avoid skin irritants (examples below) a few days post-treatment

    • Products containing tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, astringents, etc.

    • Notify clinic of any concerns (blistering, excessive redness/swelling, etc.)

    • Consult with clinic about when to resume skin care regime.
